Tool Result Orders the Agent to Hide an Action It Just Performed From the User

Detects indirect prompt injection whose payload is a concealment order: content returned by a tool tells the agent to carry out or complete something and then to keep that act out of what it reports back to the person it is working for. ATR-2026-00105 already covers this directive when it is planted in a tool DESCRIPTION — a poisoned manifest read before the call. This rule covers the same directive arriving in the tool RESULT, which is a different and more common delivery channel: a retrieved web page, an issue comment, a file the agent read, a message from another agent. A paraphrase probe over the corpus (see scripts/measure-paraphrase-robustness.ts) found the intent "silence the audit trail" undetected in tool_response even in its most literal phrasing, because every existing rule for it is keyed to tool_description. The discriminator is not the suppression language on its own — "no need to put the boilerplate in the summary" is ordinary editorial instruction, and an operator may legitimately say "complete the migration without paging on-call". It is that a TOOL RESULT, which is data and not a principal, is directing the agent's reporting behaviour toward its own overseer. Both halves must be present in the same result: a self-referential reference to the agent's action, and an instruction to withhold it from the user, operator, human or the transcript.

攻擊範例(規則會觸發)

以上為真實攻擊 payload 的脫敏版本,與規則一同版本化,作為 regression test——確保未來的修訂不會悄悄漏掉它們。

正常樣本(規則不會觸發)

  1. Topic suppression, not concealment of the agent's action
  2. Privacy guidance with no reference to the agent's own action
  3. Embargo language, no self-referential action clause
  4. Operator-style notification skip, target is not the overseer of the agent
  5. Ordinary editorial brevity instruction
  6. Confidentiality without any agent-action clause
  7. The inverse instruction — accuracy, not concealment

已知誤報情境

  • ▸Documentation or changelog text quoted inside a tool result that describes this attack pattern rather than performing it.
  • ▸Privacy guidance returned by a compliance tool, for example "do not log this request body", where no reference to the agent's own action is present — such text does not satisfy the required self-referential clause.

ATR-2026-00105 already covers this directive when it is planted in a tool
DESCRIPTION — a poisoned manifest read before the call. This rule covers the same
directive arriving in the tool RESULT, which is a different and more common
delivery channel: a retrieved web page, an issue comment, a file the agent read,
a message from another agent. A paraphrase probe over the corpus (see
scripts/measure-paraphrase-robustness.ts) found the intent "silence the audit
trail" undetected in tool_response even in its most literal phrasing, because
every existing rule for it is keyed to tool_description.

The discriminator is not the suppression language on its own — "no need to put
the boilerplate in the summary" is ordinary editorial instruction, and an
operator may legitimately say "complete the migration without paging on-call".
It is that a TOOL RESULT, which is data and not a principal, is directing the
agent's reporting behaviour toward its own overseer. Both halves must be present
in the same result: a self-referential reference to the agent's action, and an
instruction to withhold it from the user, operator, human or the transcript.

An instruction, arriving in tool output, to carry out an action and omit it from what the agent reports removes the oversight rather than defeating it: the overseer is not overruled, they are never told.
